Long-time Buckeye Local secretary has retired
RAYLAND – On Wednesday, students and staff at Buckeye Local Junior High School gathered outside the school to applaud Vicki Kourim for her many years of service to the school district.
It was the last day on the job for Kourim, the school’s secretary, and many students approached her for a hug and to wish her well as she emerged from the building.
Kourim noted her first connection to Buckeye Local Schools was as a member of the PTA chapter at Buckeye Local South Elementary.
From there, she served as a substitute teacher’s aide, working with students of various abilities, before she became a secretary, first at the former Buckeye Local Southwest Middle School and since 2002, at the current junior high school.
Kourim also has coached cheering and volleyball and assisted in play productions, particularly with props.
Asked she felt to receive such a sendoff, she said, “It’s overwhelming. Buckeye Local has been a huge part of my life.”
Kourim said she plans to focus some of her retirement on home repairs but also may visit a sister in Georgia.
But she added she also expects to volunteer her time to the school district.
